Why Don't We Try Malai Kofta



Malai kofta is a popular Indian vegetarian dish made of potato(or Panner) dunked in smooth, rich & creamy gravy. Its treated as a royal veg dish that anyone of us can prepare in half an hour and believe me, you will be utmost satisfied with the taste of it.
Let's prepare it.

Malai Kofta

Ingredients ::

  • 4 boiled potatoes.
  • 4 pcs onions
  • 5 ground tomatoes.
  • 70 grams of cottage cheese.
  • 100 grams of cream.
  • 4 teaspoons cornflour.
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 small cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala.
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • One and a half teaspoon coriander powder.
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder.
  • Water 2 Cups.
  • 3 tablespoons oil.
  • Kasuri Methi

Preparation of Kofta ::

    Malai Kofta
  1. Take boiled potatoes, add cornflour, cottage cheese, salt and pepper. Mix well for sometime.
  2. Take 1 small bowl and take 2 tsp cornflour in it and mix it with some water(Cornflour solution). Keep it separate.
  3. Keep the cream handy that you will put in the center of the circle.
  4. Now make small balls of potato mixture. Make holes in the center of the circle and put a little cream in it. Make circles again.
  5. Now put the balls in the cornflour solution, remove it and keep it in a plate.
  6. Place a pan on high heat and fill it half with oil and let it heat up. When the oil is hot, add 3-4 balls to it.
  7. Turn when the shells turn red from below. Flip slowly and stir till its nicely fried. Now keep that aside.

Preparation of Gravy ::

  1. Put the pan on high heat, and add 2 tablespoons of oil to it. Now add cloves, cardamom and garam masala.
  2. Now add onions and let it roast. Stir it till the onions turns golden brown.
  3. When the onion is properly prepared, add coriander powder, red chili powder and turmeric powder into it and mix well for 1 more minute.
  4. When the masala is roasted then add 20 ml of water again and let it roast, when done then add 20 ml of water again and let the color come.
  5. Now add tomato puree and salt. Slow down the gas and cover the mixture.
  6. When the oil starts to appear from the sides, then add cream and cover it for 1 minute.
  7. Now the cream will be mixed with the spices and oil will start appearing. Then add 2 cups of water and cover the pan properly. Let it cook for 10 minutes. Creamy and rich gravy is all prepared for you.

Final Touch ::


Decorate your fried koftas in a vessel and put gravy on it. Add Kasuri Methi and mix very gently. Keep it like that for half an hour so that the koftas soak the gravy.

And that's all. Your delicious Malai Kofta is ready to be served.
